The Mail, flushed with its "success" at sort of getting Ross and Brand suspended (if anything, the BBC itself was more responsible - the constant hammering on about the story on Radio 4 certainly does make me suspect that the pair aren't universally popular there - but anyway) is now setting its sights at a two-year-old repeat of Mock The Week that contained a joke about the Queen's fanny. For christ's sake. And also Littlejohn makes a mess of his nice clean pants which his mum will have to wash now. These are not positive outcomes. Never encourage the Mail.

(Mind you, it does mean that you get to hear the line repeated twice, on Newsnight, with a straight and outraged face.)

I've heard it said, but I don't really think they have as much power as they reckon they do; they were aided here I would say by people in the BBC wanting to put the boot into Ross. But the basic principle of not ever letting anyone at the Mail feel successful in anything they do, unless that is "quitting the Mail", should still stand.
