that thing in the news

Obviously I'm going to buy one, but oh god the journalists. It's not Apple's promotion that I object to, obviously you expect Apple to promote their own products, it's the ceaseless ill-informed balls in both the specialist and mainstream press. Given that I'm a professional internet piss-artist these days, I have to keep up with tech news - luckily I don't work with gadgets all that much so can stay away from godawful sites like TechCrunch to an extent, as they make me want to use hammers on blogger knuckles.

Recently it's just been unbearable though; the fanboy gushing is not the most irritating part on balance because there's only so much you can gush about in the absence of details. "Oh it's going to be great mmmmm" only lasts so long. It's the people who think they're Proper Tech Journalists and so write huge long pieces about how the interface should be like this but it can't do that and it should really be X rather than Y and OH GOD SHUT UP JUST WAIT UNTIL IT COMES OUT DAMN YOUR EYES.

If and when I buy an i*** it will be one of the few electronic devices I have purchased recently. Given that, nowadays, I can claim gadgets back against tax you'd expect me to have been buying all sorts but not at all. I think the last gadget I bought was, er, an iPhone, and before that, it would probably have been an EEE 901, which is not that recent at all.

Compare and contrast: a huge increase in stationery purchases. Notebooks, cahiers, sketchbooks, watercolour paper, watercolours, watercolour pencils, coloured pencils, fountain pens, mini Sharpies, Space Pens, fineliners... also other physical media items such as the Instax Mini 10. There's clearly a reaction of some sort there. I frequently think now "you know, instead of making products in Second Life I think I'll do some watercolours". Only, stuck in my flat, there's not a lot really to paint.

With all that smoking perhaps start by painting the walls.

I can't really see what the purpose of the iPad is - firstly, I think it is too large - something between the size of the iPhone and the iPad would have been my idea of fun. And then I keep asking people "and what does it do that the iTouch doesn't do and no-one can answer. And why didn't they put a SIM card in it? Does it have camera?

However, I can see a GREAT line in iPad accessories - cute bags, waterproof covers so that you can work under water, little stands, etc. But I guess only black and white backs.

Oh come on, I'm not settling for anything less than "Super Maxi" - no regular for me.
