No, really. Well, I did also spend some time reading about obscure Japanese terms for different sorts of rude computer games, and lesbian manga for lesbians, and female stereotypes in fiction, and so on. But this was what started me off.

Anyway, Ren'Py allows the quick and simple creation of "visual novels". Previous readers will know that I have quite some interest in languages regarding the creation of Interactive Fiction. If you want to create the Japanese style of "characters appear on a background, they change their expressions, you pick options from a menu" IF, this is what you should start with, because it makes it absurdly easy. You can add bits of Python if you like but you certainly don't have to.

I feel like creating one just to prove this.

There is a slight barrier unfortunately in that (a) I don't have any ideas and also (b) I can't draw manga type characters at all. Though neither of those seem to have stopped a lot of people making the things.
