1.
I seem to have lost my green Space Pen, which I bought to replace the oil-slick Space Pen that I lost going to my sister's wedding. I was writing in my notebook on the toilet this morning with it, sensibly enough after turning the shower on, so wasting half a tank of hot water. Then, I decided to go out for breakfast, and pocketed my notebook. So I might have left the pen in the flat somewhere, or, alternatively, I might have put it in my back pocket and have had it fall out on public transport, just like before.

2.
What I really want is a balcony. Recently I have been going out for breakfast, even though the coffee is often worse and always a lot more expensive, just to be able to sit in the open air. I want a balcony, where I can sit on a wrought iron chair with cigarettes and a moka pot and work out, in an evaporating fuzz of hangover, what I am supposed to be doing that day. One of those little Parisian balconies would be fine, I am not expecting much, except they don't seem to have taken off much in London.

3.
Actually I really want a larger flat generally, with a balcony, which isn't impossible to walk around just because I have a couple of pieces of furniture and doesn't have mold on the kitchen walls, but which is also within walking distance of shops and a tube station. But I can't have that because I don't have enough money; not many people do. Well, I could if I quit and went to write financial software I suppose but I'm clearly not going to do that.

3a.
I wouldn't mind actually owning the place that I live in, either, but that's not going to happen, either. However, I hear that the economy is going to take another nosedive in six to nine months' time, which might help. I think in the meantime that I may put what capital I have into gold. Or antivirals. Or Macbooks. Or shotguns and beans.

4.
Scotch Bonnets really aren't as strong as they are made out to be. A whole one, deseeded, added a pleasant level of body to a potato curry that I made yesterday, and that was it. I have had little green chillies which were harsher and had less taste.

While I'm at it, here are some other things which are not as I had thought:

4a.
Sailor Jerry's spiced rum, which was on special offer at Wetherspoons so I'd assumed was horrible, but which is actually quite nice with a buttery touch to it.

4b.
Microwaved scrambled eggs. Eggs, in the microwave, what? But actually no they are perfectly reasonable. I think I could do a better job in a pan but the choice between having to actually wash the pan and heat it and whisk the eggs and do all the cooking crap and still run the risk of messing it up, versus putting two eggs in a mug with some pepper and milk and putting it in the microwave and occasionally taking it out and mixing the eggs up with a fork a bit, well.

4c.
There is a John le Carre dramatisation on the radio at the moment - I'd always imagined it to be mannered spy nonsense but this is terrifically cynical stuff with the most appalling amoral characters. Though as I've said before, R4 dramas always seem much better than they are because of the acting.

5.
I'm really tired and nothing is keeping my attention at all. The internet is all stupid and that's pretty much what I've got. Maybe I'll try writing something.

Oh - this morning I woke up far too early, felt incredibly tired, and managed eventually to doze off a bit, then had a dream in which I woke up too early, felt incredibly tired, and tried to doze off a bit but didn't. What was the bloody point in that dream? I should take it back to the shop.

2/3/3a. You'd kill to be me, then! Except I guess you wouldn't like mowing an acre of lawn.
4b. I think the main mistake people would make with this is overcooking the eggs. They don't take long in the microwave.

Yuk, I don't want a lawn, they're covered in grass and stuff. That's what you have parks for. I don't even want a house actually, far too much bother.

I used to make pseudo-poached eggs in the microwave, but they tend to get air bubbles which can pop in a rather painful way. I'd stab them repeatedly with a fork to make sure there were none but that felt weird. maybe I should try the scrambled kind.

Scrambled is the way to go, though you can overdo them and the texture goes a bit crap. I put them in for thirty seconds at a time and then take them out, check and stir them.

You have big numbers. Big bold (and italic) numbers.

3. Bleach kills mold. Bleach kills everything. It probably would kill bird flu, too, if people could drink it and, you know, survive the bleach.

I think it's dead now, I sprayed it with all sorts of stuff and the leak from the flat above's been fixed, but it's still sitting there on the wall and probably making me ill somehow.

Half an em space is an en space. Can't you just code 1 en instead?

In London it's mould. Spelling it mold is ignorant, not internationalist. If it's American it can be spelled mold, but if it's British it's mould. As a native, you should know that.

As to flats, Katy S managed to leverage one on a much lower salary than yours. Admittedly it is in Wandsworth, but there must be others.
