Budget day
  • Traditional British festival where the prices of things you want to or have to buy go up, but your income doesn't.
Retail Price Index, Consumer Price Index
  • Percentages indicating the change in price of a basket of goods which has nothing to do with any basket of goods you might purchase, enabling the government to claim that inflation is down (or indeed negative) whilst you pay more each year for stuff.
