Not seen that term before - where did you come across it?

I remember how Warsaw as a city always struck me as a bit raw, without well differentiated neighbourhoods, which was to be expected given that I think about 80% of the population moved there after the war. One of my pupils showed me some of the few surviving ruins, completely covered in bullet marks.

You must not have been reading the news much recently - "kettling" is the term for the police surrounding groups of protestors and not letting them move for hours. (Of course, if you come prepared with tents, flasks etc, that's cheating and they go in with dogs and horses.)

I don't read the news much, you're right - a weekend paper every week or two. The average of our reading habits would probably make one average news consumer I suppose.

Knowing the background, to be honest the use of the word seems pretty over the top and rather tasteless, but that's journalism for you.
