The Metropolitan Police is telling residents and workers near the ExCeL conference centre, where G20 leaders will meet, that they will need two forms of ID, one photographic and one linked to their residence or place of business, to get through barriers.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said there was no legal basis for the request, but that people would get through barriers more quickly if they had the two forms of identification.

In a certain way it's nice to see the police at least admitting that they're just harassing people illegally, I suppose. Tomorrow I plan to set up a barrier outside New Scotland Yard and demand three forms of identification to get through it - one photographic, one linked to their residence or place of business, and one signed by the Dalai Lama promising that they would never do anything bad. Don't worry, I've had my skull reinforced recently.

Actually they REALLY need that information so that they can secretly set up direct debits from your bank account to the Police Benevolent Fund.
