Waterstones cancelled a poetry reading in Cardiff because of pressure from Christian Voice, it appears. From Christian Voice? The most irrelevant one-man-and-a-dog group in the history of groups, regardless of whether the damn BBC brings them in at every opportunity?

Anyway, well. I sent an email to Waterstones MD Gerry Johnson - gerry.johnson@waterstones.com - and I shall certainly not be purchasing any Christmas presents at Waterstones this year. I would also suggest that you, dear reader, might wish to do the same. There are plenty of bookshops far more deserving of your money.

Like you I will not be buying any books from Waterstones in the near future and they had better send some kind of response because this is a major screw up.

This is the chain that sacked a bookseller for blogging despite the fact they had no blogging policy, he had worked there for 13 years, and that their own policies required they give him some kind of warning to straighten up if he was breaking rules. They never learn.

After it was bought by HMV, Waterstones abandoned its literary beginnings and went completely bean-counter and top-40. The soul of the place is gone. That's why I left.
