I went for metal detectors, parents have lost control and night time curfews, called myself night time curfews for the knife carrying teens with the email address Mr@hysterical.com. I hope the Sky researchers enjoy my contribution!

Well, I carried a knife on and off when I was a kid - my parents gave it to me for my birthday when I was 11? Maybe 12?

It was a Stanley knife (utility knife) of course. I kept it in my pencil case. It was useful for all sorts of crafty/practical purposes.

Given that I was a mild-mannered 5'2" girl, I can't imagine my knife was a big concern. I would say violence is the problem, not knives per se! (And I suspect that ignorance, suspicion and prejudice are bigger problems!)

We will all have to have that plastic cutlery that they used on planes after 9/11. Admittedly it's going to make it difficult for chefs, cooks and anyone peeling an apple, but hey, we have to stop knife crime - tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime, didn't TB say some time ago!
