Tamarind stock cubes. Price of food getting you down? Slap half a tamarind cube into your noodle soup!

Tamarind stock cubes

Of course they're not actually cubes, they are cuboids, but I'll forgive that.

Bad things, oh, I'm not even going to go there, though today's Westminster Bastard is probably David Cameron. Not going to think about it! Happy happy!

It will be about 10 years before something as exotic as Tamarind broth cubes penetrate as far as our part of the world. However, I swear by Delia's choice - Maggi Organic Vegetarian Vegan Bouillon powder!

You are both philistines - how can you not appreciate the wonderfulness of Marigold Swiss Vegetable (Vegan) Bouillon powder!

I thought tamarind was a kind of fruit?

It is a kind of fruit, you can buy them in the market round here. The flesh is glutinous enough that it can be made into cubes and extracts and so on though.

My late husband's old auntie in St Lucia used to make tamarind balls. They were a sort-of dark brown fudge type thing with a stone in the middle and suger on the outside. The "sweet" tasted of the sourest, sourest lemon imaginable, the sort of sour that makes you shiver when it hits your mouth.
